Out French tennis star Amelie Mauresmo clinched her first tournament title in two years at the Open GDF SUEZ in Paris on Sunday. The 29-year-old athlete defeated third seed Elena Dementieva in the final round, giving Mauresmo her first tournament win since Antwerp, Belgium, in 2007.

"I was waiting for consecutive wins like this to prove that I'm capable of winning this kind of tournament," Mauresmo told reporters. "You look at the field here in Paris, with all the great players that were here, and I'm very happy and very proud about this week."

Mauresmo won a silver medal in the 2004 Summer Olympics and two Grand Slams in 2006 -- Wimbledon and the Australian Open -- but has slipped to 24th in international rankings. (Michelle Garcia, Advocate.com)
