Ellen DeGeneres has signed on to star as Mother Nature in a new comedy for Walden Media, the family-friendly film company behind The Chronicles of Narnia and Charlotte's Web .

The film, to be penned by Jenny Bicks who co-executive produced and wrote for the Sex and the City TV series, is expected to film this summer. Walden execs Michael Bostick and Evan Turner will oversee the project.

This marks the first time in a decade that DeGeneres will appear in a live-action film. She was last seen on-screen in 1999's Edtv and The Love Letter . She provided the voice for Dory the fish in Finding Nemo .

"I've always wanted to control the weather," DeGeneres said. "Nothing will stop me from doing this ... neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet. ... I may be thinking of the postal service -- but I'm really excited about the movie."
