Following voter approval of a nondiscrimination ordinance in
Kalamazoo, Mich., on Tuesday, state house speaker pro tem Pam Byrnes
introduced a resolution to reverse Michigan's constitutional ban on same-sex
marriage.
Michigan voters approved the ban in 2004, but Byrnes introduced a resolution on Tuesday seeking a referendum that would ask voters to amend the constitution to allow same-sex marriage, according to WWMT-TV.
"Byrnes says it's time for a change," reported the news channel on its website. "She would need super-majority votes in both the house and senate to get a same-sex [marriage] proposal on the ballot in Michigan next year."
