Dave Wilson, a Houston-based antigay activist, will be on Harris County's March 2 ballot as a nominee for Precinct 4 commissioner as a Democrat, the Houston Chronicle reports.
Wilson, who sent out some 30,000 mailers in November opposing Annise Parker for mayor because she is a lesbian, has voted in eight GOP primary and runoff elections since 1995. He has never voted in a Democratic primary or runoff election.
Wilson is eyeing the seat he expects to be vacated by incumbent Republican Jerry Eversole, who he believes will resign his seat as the result of a corruption investigation by the FBI.
Harris County Democratic Party chair Gerry Birnberg has accused Wilson and the Republican Party of fraud, saying not only is Wilson not a Democrat, but he allowed a representative to pose as Wilson and be introduced as such at a Democratic fund-raiser last year.
"We would have recruited a placeholder so we could keep this charlatan out of the race," Birnberg said.
