Designer Daniel Vosovic hopes one day soon to dress Precious star Gabourey Sidibe. The gay Project Runway finalist said he has approached the stylist for the Academy Award-nominated actress because he wants to make a "fashion moment" from "something that's not exactly a sample size."
"I loved Gabby's performance and I've admired her the way she handles herself in the press," Vosovic told The Advocate. "So if I can design a dress for her that gets people talking, the helps her to keep creating and performing, it would be amazing.
Vosovic spoke about his vision with New York magazine fashion blog The Cut last week.
"To me, that would be a standout and accomplishment, to take something that's not exactly a sample size and make it not just work, but make it a fashion moment," he said. "Because I think red-carpet dressing is so mundane and now having had my own collection, I'm competing with corporations and it sucks. And it's like, 'No, I want you because I like you and respect your work to wear my clothes, not because you gave me $10,000 to do so.'"
The overture from Vosovic arrives in the wake of reports that high-fashion bible Vogue rejected an appearance by Sidibe because of her size.
