Former Florida Gator Tim Tebow was selected in the first round of the NFL draft by the Denver Broncos on Thursday.
Tebow, the University of Florida quarterback, was a person of much debate when he and his mother appeared in an advertisement for Christian conservative group, Focus on the Family during the Super Bowl in March. The organization has pursued a strong antigay and anti-abortion lobbying effort throughout much of its existence.
Tebow was the 25th player drafted -- the second quarterback after top pick Sam Bradford, who went to the Rams, as well as the second player to go to the Broncos after 22nd pick wide receiver Demaryius Thomas.
"It's all been worth it," said Tebow, according to EPSN. "The good stuff is usually worth the wait. You've just got to be patient."
The next seven draft rounds will continue through Saturday.
