Producers of MTV's Jersey Shore have apologized for a scene in the October 28 reunion show in which members of the cast referred to a female clubgoer as a "tra**y."
The scene featured Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino flirting with a blond at a Miami nightclub. "If you have to think about it, it is a tra**y -- stay away," the cast members said.
MTV apologized in a statement: "We appreciate GLAAD voicing concern about the 'Jersey Shore' reunion special. The segment in question was certainly not meant to be insensitive, but in retrospect we realize that it was offensive to some viewers. We sincerely apologize."
The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation called on MTV to apologize. GLAAD officials say the slur will be omitted from forthcoming airings of the show.
