Jim Swilley, the Georgia megachurch pastor who made headlines when he came out last month, will appear on Tuesday night's Joy Behar Show with his ex-wife, Debye, to discuss his decision to come out after 21 years of marriage.
"I told my church that I was given two things in my life, I didn't ask for either; one is the call of God in my life and the other is my orientation," he says. "I didn't ever think that those two things could be compatible, and so I just tried to change it, I didn't try to hide it, I just tried to change it."
Swilley says he hopes his coming-out will help to change conservative attitudes toward religion and inspire gay youth struggling with their sexuality. The pastor also says he's never "said anything derogatory about gay people, so I don't have to eat any words."
