Leonardo DiCaprio and Dustin Lance Black met with gay rights pioneer Frank Kameny on Wednesday as background research for Clint Eastwood's upcoming biopic on J. Edgar Hoover.
According to BandofThebes.com, the hour-long meeting was requested by the actor and screenwriter and took place in Kameny's Washington D.C. home. A source said the 85-year-old Kameny "was on his game, funny and insightful."
Kameny discussed his early days of gay activism and his work with the Mattachine Society, often a target of FBI investigations.
DiCaprio is slated to play Hoover in the film, written by Black, who won the Oscar for writing the screenplay for Milk. The Social Network's Armie Hammer will appear as Hoover's protege and rumored lover. Judi Dench has signed on to play Hoover's mother.
