Writers Stuart Blumberg and Lisa Cholodenko took home an Independent Spirit Award for their lesbian-themed screenplay for The Kids Are All Right.
The awards were presented yesterday afternoon by the non-profit arts organization that produces the Los Angeles Film Festival and were hosted by comedian Joel McHale, who joked that "2010 in independent cinema will go down in cinematic history as The Year of Cunnilingus. Blue Valentine, Greenberg, Black Swan, Kids Are All Right - what do they have in common? They are all about eating lunch down at the 'Y'. Blow jobs are the domain of major studio films."
Other winners included Black Swan, which won for Best Feature, Best Female Lead (Natalie Portman), Best Director, Best Cinematography, and James Franco, who won Best Male Lead for his performance in 127 Hours.
