Probe Launched Into Finances of Antigay N.Y. Politician
The New York State attorney general's office is investigating antigay state senator Shirley Huntley's relationship with nonprofits that the New York Post writes has "soaked taxpayers for more than $400,000." In 2009, Huntley was one of eight Democrats who voted against same-sex marriage in New York, defeating the legislation.
State records indicate that the senator from Queens attempted to direct $155,000 to her nonprofit organization called the Parent Workshop, a taxpayer-funded charity, and that a portion of $30,000 paid to two consultants for that organization went to a person living at a Huntley family home.
Huntley has refused to answer questions about her charity or the investigation.
