Barbra Streisand fans who were disappointed that the entertainer's planned film version Gypsy was called off can breathe again, as it appears plans are still in the works, reports website Deadline.
Last week Arthur Laurents, a longtime friend of Streisand's who wrote the book for the classic backstage musical, gave an interview to The Hartford Courant saying plans for her to tackle the challenging role of Mama Rose had been canceled following a conversation he had with Stephen Sondheim, the show's lyricist.
The website speculates that Laurents and Sondheim have changed their minds and reports that Universal is finalizing the deal and director Tom Hooper, who just won an Oscar for The King's Speech, definitely will not direct the film, and neither will Streisand.
