It looks as if there's a gay character coming to Salem.

In a first for NBC's lone remaining daytime drama Days of Our Lives, the show is reportedly introducing a gay storyline in the coming months. Though a show spokeswoman declined to comment, Entertainment Weekly reports "it may involve a current cast member hooking up with someone new."

Though gay characters aren't new to daytime, Days of Our Lives is typically thought of as daytime's most conservative soap. All My Children introduced its first gay character in the early '80s and made history again by featuring daytime's first regular lesbian character, Bianca Montgomery, daughter of Erica Kane.

EW.com suggests a coming out storyline might be in the works for Will (Chandler Massey), the teenage son of central character Sami (Allison Sweeney).
