A Louisiana high school senior who was told by school officials she would not be allowed to enter her prom if she arrived dressed in a tuxedo will now be allowed to attend.

The Daily Comet
reports Terrebonne Parish school officials are backing off a policy mandating tuxes for boys and dresses for girls on the heels of receiving a complaint from the American Civil Liberties Union's Louisiana affiliate.

Monique Verdin, 19, was told Friday by Ellender High's principal, Cory Butler, and high schools supervisor Tony Authement that she would be denied entrance to her prom if she wore a tux. Verdin and her father, Jody Bergeron, contacted the ACLU, and Monday, Authement said attorneys advised him against enforcing the rule.

Verdin will not be allowed to attend with her girlfriend, who is 32, because of a rule barring anyone who is over 21 from attending the prom.
