A transgender person was fatally shot on the street in Hollywood, Calif. Thursday night.
Police found the body after receiving calls about shots being fired, KABC reports. The unidentified transgender person was found near Gower St. and Lexington Ave with a gunshot wound to the chest.
A man was seen leaving the area, but police have not made any arrests, nor has the suspect been identified.
An annual report by the Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations shows a 21-year low in the number of hate crimes across the county in 2010. The figures, however, show that transgender people were the most targeted people in the county for violent hate crimes from 2006-2010.
