Hi there,
🌈 Thursday marked the 10th anniversary of the Obergefell v. Hodges Supreme Court ruling that legalized marriage equality — a fight decades in the making. We asked Advocate readers to tell us about the impact marriage equality had on them and their relationships. Here are some of their stories.
📣 One of the people who fought for their marriage to be recognized, Jim Obergefell, wrote for The Advocate what is at risk now in the current political landscape. "When activists fought for the queer community in years past, existing rights were not at risk. Our community had nothing to lose. We could only gain rights that society and laws had long denied us. In 2025, we stand to lose the rights we have achieved," he argues.
💢 Pete Hegseth confirmed Friday that the Navy ship honoring gay rights icon Harvey Milk will be renamed. Hegseth said the move was to take the politics out of ship names...okay, Pete. And yes, he made the announcement on one of the last days of Pride Month.
Onward and upward,
