After Colorado congressman Jared Polis was elected on Tuesday as the nation's first openly gay governor, he gave a rousing victory speech thanking everyone from former governor John Hickenlooper to the LGBTQ community to his partner, Marlon Reis.
"For the LGBTQ pioneers for equality in the generations before me who endured so much hardship and hurt to make it possible for so many of us, myself included, to live and to love openly and proudly and to the people right here in this room I profoundly grateful for all the work you've done to overcome," Polis said at the Denver press conference.
Polis also thanked his "personal support network" for his historic victory, especially partner Marlon Reis, who stood near the governor-elect.
"First and foremost, of course, my amazing partner and the first 'First Man' in the history of Colorado, Marlon Reis," Polis said. Reis then hugged Polis to resounding cheers. Watch below (at 4:45), courtesy of KMGH-TV, the Denver ABC affiliate.
