Thomas Roberts -- the out journalist who recently hosted an MSNBC program -- is in the middle of the Special Counsel investigation probing whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russian officials to influence the 2016 election.

A controversial "dossier" funded by political opponents of Trump and researched by a former British intelligence officer accuse Trump and the campaign of having numerous, and seemingly nefarious, ties to Russia. Part of the dossier, of which only parts have been verified, accuse Trump of ordering sex workers to urinate on a bed in Moscow that former president Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama slept in earlier; the dossier says Russian officials have video of the encounter and could use it to blackmail Trump. The president denies that charge and, according to reports, told former FBI director James Comey that he didn't spend the night in Moscow during the 2013 trip referenced in the dossier, making the "pee tape" accusation untrue.

But Roberts says Trump is lying about the length of the Moscow trip. Trump was in the Russian capital in November 2013 to preside over the Miss Universe pageant, which he owned at the time. Roberts was one of the hosts of the beauty pageant and told the Daily Beast that the future president definitely spent at least one night in Moscow.

"The first time I met Donald Trump it was in Moscow on November 8th, 2013," Roberts said. "I taped a sit-down interview with Trump the next day on November 9th. That was also the date for the Miss Universe broadcast."

Flight records appear to corroborate Roberts's account, which also included details on Trump offering Roberts and his husband a flight back to New York on the private jet he flew in on (Roberts turned down the offer).

The Daily Beast asked Roberts if Mueller has interviewed him about the 2013 trip, but he declined to comment.
