Social media celebrated the 116th Congress, which includes a historic number of women, people of color, and LGBTQ people.
The 116th Congress convened Thursday -- and it is the most diverse in U.S. history.
Over 100 women, over 50 black members, 39 Hispanic members, 10 LGB people, two Native American women, and two Muslim women were among the senators and representatives sworn in.
This watershed moment was celebrated on Twitter, as it also means Democrats take control of the House of Representatives and can provide an important check on the power of the Trump administration. As many noted in their posts today, this diverse body represents "Trump's worst nightmare."
