Jim Obergefell, the lead plaintiff in the consolidated marriage equality cases known as Obergefell v. Hodges case, made a heartfelt speech on the steps of the Supreme Court this morning in reaction to the landmark ruling on nationwide marriage equality.
"Today's ruling from the Supreme Court affirms what millions across this country already know to be true in our hearts," Obergefell told the massive crowd gathered outside the Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. "Our love is equal."
The Court released its 5-4 ruling this morning in favor of same-sex marriage, affirming that the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution requires states to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, and requires states to recognize legal marriages performed in other states.
