Evan Lysacek Slams Johnny Weir

JOHNNY WEIR EVAN LYSACEK X390 (GETTY) | ADVOCATE.COM

Olympic Gold medalist Evan Lysacek dismisses reports Johnny Weir was overlooked for the Stars on Ice tour because he’s not “family-friendly,” saying the skater wasn’t chosen because he’s simply not good enough.

“'Stars on Ice' is really selective of who they hire and they only hire the best of the best to skate,” Lysacek told MetroMix.com. It would’ve been hard of them to justify hiring him, and I think he was really upset because he wanted the financial benefit of the tour. A lot of us in the skating world were really disappointed in the way he reacted, basically whining that he wasn’t chosen.”

Anyone ever stop to think this might be about MONEY??? Perhaps Mr Weir was not chosen because of price tag? and Mr. Abbott was chosen for the same reason?

I have watched Mr. Weir he is very bitchy and caddy. I would never pay to watch him skate.

I think Evan's comment is bitchy and out of line. Johnny may not be to everyone's taste, but he's an excellent athlete, and I for one welcome someone flamboyant. This is an ice show folks, not a play about the pilgrims.

Look guys, this isn't a gay or straight issue... I have several friends who have gone far at Nationals for ice skating, and even one who was in the Olympics. To quote, "All of the US male figure skaters are gay. Some are out, others are not, but they're all gay." I agree Evan is a bit full of himself and probably shouldn't have said what he did, but Weir did kind of act like a baby when he was told he was not going to be a part of the show. The appropriate thing to do would have been to just move on and do something else. He made a big show out of "unfair" treatment and in a way, he brought this kind of comment on himself. This isn't some kind of anti-gay bigotry. Let's not kid ourselves.

What is up with all the drama in figure skating? What is this, 1994? Anyway, I agree that Weir should have at least been invited to the tour considering he has medaled in the past. Jeremy Abott, WTF? He finishes out of the top five and he's still on the tour? Evan, dear, I normally like you but you seriously flopped on this one!

I'm more than a little disappointed in both of them. Evan was very classy while dealing with the snide comments from the Russian skater. I wish he'd had saved some of that tact and grace for this. As for Johnny I'm not standing up for my gay "brother" until he stands up for himself and stops playing the "I'm not telling" game... Mary please!!!!!!!!!!! No one is questioning you sexuality. If he is trying to make a point, he'd better hurry while someone still cares.

ADDED MORE! Fellow American Jeremy Abbott is on the tour. HE TANKED at Olympics... what 17th place??? AND TANKED AGAIN too last month at Worlds.... what 15th????? SO CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN how Johnny (NOT ON THE TOUR) is not good enough and Jeremy Abbott (on the tour) is with those TANKS! Johnny won 3 USA Nationals.. He was tied for first place in another...but the tiebreaker went to Evan for some silly rule. Evan grow up!

Johnny and Evan are both remarkable skaters, they both did a terrefic job at the olympics. I have followed both careers for years and have admiration for both. I have a lot respect for Johnny for being true to himself and his heart, he never pretends to be something he isn't. I look foreward to his performances more than any other skater. Whether or not Evan is right or Johnny doesn't matter much to me, for Evan to say that is worse than Johnny "whinning" about it. I will never attend stars on ice again nor will I ever purchase smuckers products again. Normally when someone wins the olympics they do not need to put down the competition, they should be humble and set a good example, Evan has not done this.
