Gibbs: No Time Line Yet for DADT

ROBERT GIBBS X390 (GETTY) | ADVOCATE.COM

Amid reports this week that meetings on "don't ask, don't tell" have been taking place at the Department of Defense, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said at Friday's briefing that discussions about the policy were ongoing but declined to signal whether President Barack Obama would push for repeal this year.

The Advocate: There's been several reports that discussions within the Pentagon are sort of heating up around "don't ask, don't tell." Does the president plan to push for repeal this year in 2010?

Robert Gibbs: Obviously, there have been discussions here, there have been discussions in the Pentagon — they will continue. We don't have — I don't yet have a time line out of those discussions. But I know they do continue.

The Advocate: The Associated Press reported that the in-house counsel to Adm. Mike Mullen has advised that repeal be delayed by a year. Is the White House comfortable with what appears to be sort of a shot across the bow from the Pentagon?

Gibbs: I don't believe that the opinion of one person reflects the opinion of everyone in that building, nor does it reflect the opinion of everyone in this building, particularly the president of the United States.

I was the first and only Transgender Army officer serving as a man and a woman in the 1970's, 80's and 90's after winning a precedent case at the Pentagon in 1988. At the time I was somewhat of a media sensation on the national talk circuit. The government's response to my change of gender? They placed me under close surveillacne, drugged me at will, and repearedly attempted attempted to assassinate me by inducing cardiac arrythmias by exposure to nanoparticles which would literally explode virtually everywhere I went. ie. home, car, civilian job as an educator. My partner, a former NCO with the 101st Airborne was also targeted. I was forced to sell my house, purchased a boat, shipped it to florida and fled to the Bahamas. Unfortunately, due to mechanical problems I was forced to return to the United States where this nightmare has again resumed!!! What you don't understand is that the US Government hasincorporated these disease inducing particulates into virtually every produc

I am lining myself up to join the Army ROTC program at my school, starting to take the classes for it. President Obama needs to push for a policy change or he will lose me as a future officer at a time of war. It's sad that a policy that is against the our Constitution is stopping me from being a person who swears to uphold it.

In Germany they first came for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me — and by that time no one was left to speak up. Niemoller- Again- I say- I wonder if someone will speak up for you- Gibbs... I hope not.

Since Obahma has been in power I have watched history being beig rewritten. When he sent more troops to Afganistan it was quoted that he voted against the original call to war by Bush. In order for that to ber true he would have had to be a senator. He was still an Illinois representative in state government when these crucial otes went through. As far as gay issues he voted against partner benefits for state employees. He didn't have a gay platform until his handlers discovered how sucessful Hillary Clinton was in getting funding and campaign workers in the gay community. Then he did an about face and started quoting from Hilary's book and everbody bought into it. Now you are surprised that his lackeys keep delivering the message, endure with me and we will suuucceed, at least until he gets his second term. You backed the wrong horse, the women who was behing you for 10 years you through to the curb, for the ultimate liar, and wonder what went wrong.

"Wait means NEVER" The people in power dont have the time to deal with issues that have nothing to do with them so as usual they'll just make up excuses and maybe 80 yrs from now LGBT people can serve openly in the military, the people who are hurting now just arent that important.

I hope that Obama only needs Mike Mullen's vote. This is a joke! Gibbs is a liar who happens to be the face of the administration. We are so low on the list of priorities. We are just the univited guests knocking at the door. Keep quiet! No one is home. I guess so much for having intelligent people in the military.
