Rivals Call Caster "A Man"

CASTER SEMENYA 20100822 x390 (getty) | ADVOCATE.COM

Winning the 800-meter track event in Berlin was a happy moment for South African Caster Semenya, who became the focus of an international conversation over gender and sport. However, her competitors weren't quite sharing the love.

Diane Cummins, who placed eighth in the event, said the International Association of Athletics Federations should not have cleared Semenya, 19, to run after 11 months of testing proved she is biologically female and fit to compete against other women.

"Even if she is a female, she's on the very fringe of the normal athlete female biological composition from what I understand of hormone testing. So, from that perspective, most of us just feel that we are literally running against a man," Cummins told London's Telegraph.

Italy's Elisa Cusma Piccione, who came in third place, simply said, "For me, she is a man."

Cummins and Britain's Jemma Simpson, who placed fourth, said that while they know they have to be diplomatic when talking about Semenya, the frustration over their competitor's high performance still exists.

Semenya took the lead in the last 100 meters in the race from Christin Wurth-Thomas of the United States, clocking in at 1:59.90. Semenya said that she's only been training seriously for about a month and has not done any speed work since her hiatus.

Lance Armstrong was born with more lung capacity which makes him an amazing cyclist, do you hear the others crying? Serena and Venus Williams are twice the size of most female tennis players. Or those freaky children pianists or the little girl who sings opera on America's Got Talent. If it wasn't for amazing genetics none of these people would be out of the ordinary and we'd all be doing it. Biologically she's female and if she's genetically superior in specific ways that make her a superior athlete, that's how it IS. Most of these women are athletically superior to 99% of other women except Semenya...so shut up already. If it wasn't for Rodger Federrer maybe I could have been number one.... oh well.

Article says "11 months of testing proved she is biologically female". How much more testing does it take to shut up these naysayers? 12 months? 13? Sheesh.

Man! It's like when you're in school and the mean girls pick on other girls! Seriously, do they hear themselves. What sore losers? They can't even admit they lost to a woman, they have to make an excuse! God forbid women should be athletic. I know plenty of women who are stronger, faster, smarter, and greater than most guys. I hate these women; the type who use sexism to their advantage!

Can't we just make him/her go through one of those new airport screening machines and settle this thing once and for all?

Loser's can't lose because they're perfect and those women that run faster than them MUST be men in disguise. Seriously! She places 8th and people listen to her? And calling her names? Is that the new sportsmanship? If you can't keep up with her, then you may need to rethink running as a profession. Cause your a LOSER!
