Blue Power Ranger Comes Out

DAVID YOST POWER RANGER X390 (GRAB FAIR) | ADVOCATE.COM

David Yost, the original Blue Mighty Morphin Power Ranger, came out last week in an interview at the 2010 Anime Festival in Orlando.

“I was called 'faggot' one too many times,” Yost says of his decision to walk off set of the early ’90s children’s show one day and ultimately leave the show. “ I had heard that several times while working on the show, from creators, producers, writers, directors.”

Yost says he was struggling with “who I was or what I was. To be made fun of on some level or to be stereotyped or put into a category — basically I felt like I was continually being told I’m not worthy of being where I am because I’m quote-unquote a gay person.”

Yost says his costars were repeatedly called into producers’ offices and asked about his sexuality, an experience he says was “humiliating.”

Yost is now 41 and continues to work in the business as a producer and sometimes actor. Prior to coming out, he says he spent years in various reparative therapy programs trying to rid himself of homosexuality.

Blue Ranger was always my favorite. It's a shame that he had to leave under those circumstances.

I've always had a thought that you were gay, but I am glad that you are happier now than you were before. Way to go David. You were without a doubt my favorite ranger.

Actually, the man on this site looks more like the red ranger (who's actually an EMT) and this is a web myth that's been dispelled countless times. Research, research, research.

That explains why I liked the Blue Ranger more, and why I always fall for the nerdy types.

I LOVE YOU DAVID. He was my hero growing up. It's cool to know we went through the same thing at the same time basically. And on the red ranger doing porn on Sean Cody. It's a lookalike, not actually Austin St. John (original red ranger). If you wiki him, you'll find his pic from 2007.

What a great and moving interview. I really hope that you can be happy now and accept who you are. What a brave decision it was to leave the show, no one has the right to call you names or shame you. Thank you very much for sharing.
