Dreamgirls may return to Broadway

Dreamgirls composer Henry Krieger told the New York Post that there will be a meeting next month to discuss bringing Dreamgirls back to Broadway, reports Playbill.com.

The film Dreamgirls, starring Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce Knowles, and Eddie Murphy, was recently nominated for eight Academy Awards, though not for Best Picture. The film was directed by Bill Condon and uses most of the original score composed by Tom Eyen and Henry Krieger.

Dreamgirls debuted on Broadway on December 9, 1981, at the Imperial Theater and played 1,521 performances before its run ended on August 11, 1985. The original cast featured Jennifer Holliday, Obba Babatunde, Cleavant Derricks, Loretta Devine, and Ben Harney. It was revived in 1987 at the Ambassador Theatre. (The Advocate)
