Filmmaker Matthew Smith is bringing together celebrities, politicians, and everyday allies, straight and gay, who accept and celebrate LGBT people in the new documentary film Out in the Open.
They discuss coming to terms with their sexuality and accepting that of others, with the goal of empowering LGBT people, especially youths who suffer from bullying and ostracism.
Smith, an actor and director who had been in the closet professionally for fear of losing jobs, says he eventually decided to leave this fear behind come out as “a happy, stable gay man.” He appears in the movie, along with several other straight and gay celebrities, including Carson Kressley, Eric Roberts, Greg Louganis, and Josh Strickland.
Smith and his partners at Real Stream Productions have begun a Kickstarter campaign to help them complete the film. Watch a trailer below.
