Chris Brown Denies He Ditched a Pride Event Due to Homophobia

The rapper says he was never booked for the event, but the organizer is telling a different story.

An organizer of an LGBT Pride event claims that Chris Brown bailed on an appearance due to homophobia.

Melissa Scott, the founder of the lesbian entertainment company Traxx Girls, says Brown was booked to introduce singer Teyana Taylor Saturday night during Atlanta Black Gay Pride Weekend. The performers were in the area last weekend as part of Brown's One Hell of a Nite Tour.

The Georgia Voice reports that Brown, who figured prominently in the advertising for the event -- described as "biggest girl party in the country with over 4,000 women in attendance -- cancelled when he discovered that several gay men would also be in attendance.

Scott says Brown had been paid a retainer fee for the performance and told the LGBT outlet she was "completely baffled" by Brown's last-minute decision.

"I think it's unfortunate for mainstream artists to take people's money with the complete prior knowledge of knowing what the event is and being very clear about what the event is about," she said. "I'm completely baffled. You know it's gay pride. You knew you agreed when you sent the contract in and took the money."

The Georgia Voice verified that text messages were sent between Scott and Brown's team prior to the scheduled appearance. Scott texted photos of the crowd to prove that there was "nothing but girls in here." She was also asked to take down an image of Brown because it looked "a little feminine."

Scott says that, fortunately, she was able to secure a last-minute replacement in rapper Fetty Wap, who is also on tour with Brown and Taylor. Wap reportedly said an enthusiastic, "Hell, yeah!" when asked if he would like to be included in the show.

Brown has denied Scott's claims Monday in a series of posts on Twitter.

"I wasn't aware or informed of a show I supposedly cancelled," he said. "I have nothing but love and respect for the LGBT COMMUNITY."

"The show was never confirmed by any of my people. So I apologize if the fans wanted me there," he added.

"I honestly wasn't booked for the show. Hopefully in the future we can do it right. Much love LGBT," he concluded.

This isn't the first time Brown has been in hot water for accusations of homophobia. In 2010 the singer called rapper Raz-B a "dick in da booty a** lil boy" after he had commented on Brown's attitudes toward women.

"I'm not homophobic! He's just disrespectful!" Brown tweeted at the time. "By the way, I love all my gay fans and this immature act is not targeted at you! It's wack as f*** that everybody can bash me, but soon as I defend myself it's World War III. I TAKE S*** FROM everybody ... it's cool though."
