New York artist Michael Blake's work verges on the medical. His sculpture feels functional and ritualistic at the same time. But his trussed-up Lycra objects and foam urinal partitions both worship and poke fun at honored masculine constructs.
Blake is delightfully free of concern about the pervvy factor of his work: "The pieces function as surrogates for my living companions, a team whose members join forces and toy with and entice one another."
Stay tuned for a Hunter College Thesis Show in the spring.
