Beloved singer Taylor Dayne has entertained audiences for decades, with her iconic hit "Tell It to My Heart" hitting a 35-year milestone this year.

While the performer is celebrating her success and longevity in the music industry, she's also grateful to still enjoy every day she's alive as she had a horrifying health scare last year.

Dayne was diagnosed with colon cancer during a routine colonoscopy that left her fighting for her life in the hospital.

"I came out of it on such a healthy side and such an advocate [to be] a warrior for yourself. Why do they tell us to wait til 50? [The doctor said] I don't know if you'll be here within six months. It's a silent killer," Dayne tells The Advocate.

Since her treatment, Dayne is thankfully now doing much better and she's encouraging everyone to make their health a top priority.

"It was a rocky time. It took my three months to come through that health challenge. Become your own warrior first! Whether you're in a health crisis or not, the point is feeling good and getting help," she says.

The singer is now teaming up with Wacoal, the nation's leading designer and intimate apparel brand, as part of their Fit for the Cure campaign to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

"Number one is health. You gotta take care of yourself. The gratitude is off the charts for me. Why am I here to see another day? Your purpose becomes everything. I've had a wonderful year going through this process."

During her time away as she tackled her cancer diagnosis, Dayne also reflected on her love and admiration for the LGBTQ+ community.

The singer has shown her allyship and stood hand in hand with the community since her debut back in the '80s.

"It was instant love. I was going to drag clubs with the greatest shows in London [and] Frankfurt. They do this better than me! They look better than me. God knows they got about 12 inches of height on me. As success came to me, [I had] the privilege of watching this community grow."

As she continues to release new music, including the latest rendition of her massive hit "Tell It to My Heart," Dayne will continue supporting her dedicated queer fanbase.

"[I have the] deepest friendships and my greatest loyalty of fanbase worldwide [is with the LGBTQ+ community.] It's really quite amazing. My music was always powerful and it delivers a message. There's a connection. I'm very proud of that."
