Movies:
Shrek Forever After -- The Shrek movies might be family films, but they've never exactly been wholesome (remember Pinocchio wearing a thong in Shrek the Third?). Which is why the appearance of a gay hustler in the fourth and final installment isn't exactly shocking. The film has been getting mixed reviews, but for those of you who get a kick out of wildly inappropriate humor that flies under the radar in kids' films, Shrek Forever After won't disappoint.
MacGruber -- If the idea of watching Will Forte run around naked with a celery stalk clenched between his butt cheeks is your idea of fun, you'll likely get a kick out of the humor in MacGruber. But what's even more bothersome about this brand of humor is that when Ryan Phillippe's character is asked to run around nude, they cut to a body double. We get this is supposed to be a comedy -- but when even the nicest critics say the humor in the film is "throwaway" and "crude," it would serve the audience well to at least give them a little eye candy.
Music:
The Family Jewels by Marina and the Diamonds -- Welsh singer Marina Diamandis is beautiful, odd, and has a great ear for catchy songs. "I Am Not a Robot" is the wacky, wonderful tune that will endear her to America's bearded gay hipsters.Album out Tuesday.
Interpretations: The British Rock Songbook by Bettye LaVette -- If you've forgotten, this Detroit soul singer found fame in 2005 with her cover album, I've Got My Own Hell to Raise (a Fiona Apple lyric). Bettye's back with her take on songs from guys like George Harrison, John Lennon, and Pete Townshend. Out Tuesday.
"Dancing on My Own" by Robyn -- It hasn't taken long for gays to fall in love with the Swedish pop star's new single, off of her June release, Body Talk Pt. 1. Like her classic "With Every Heartbeat," "Dancing" is electronica with soul, a song that makes you want to flail around and cry simultaneously. Keep up the good work, Robyn.

DVDs:
The Amazing Truth About Queen Raquela -- A street-smart Filipina transsexual prostitute (the riveting Raquela Rios) tries to adjust to life in Iceland and find her true love in this often-engaging documentary-fiction hybrid from Icelandic filmmaker Olaf de Fleur Johannesson.
And Then Came Lola -- In this time-bending lesbian riff on Tom Tykwer's Run Lola Run, Lola (Ashleigh Sumner) must dash through the streets of San Francisco to deliver a set of photos to her new girlfriend (Jill Bennett) and she has three chances to make it right
Valentine's Day -- A star-studded cast that includes Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway, and Taylor Lautner couldn't save director Garry Marshall's latest rom-com about a variety of Los Angeles-based and romantically challenged couples from being labeled the date movie from hell. This pastiche plays like a sappy, watered-down version of the not great but infinitely superior Love Actually and in an effort to reach as broad a demographic as possible tosses a bone to gay audiences with the Bradley Cooper-Eric Dane story line.
