With somewhat macabre timing, it was announced Wednesday--the day that serial killer Aileen Wuornos was executed--that Charlize Theron would play Wuornos in the independent feature Monster, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film's take on Wuornos is that she was not a lesbian herself but that a lesbian had fallen in love with her and that Wuornos saw the relationship as her last chance at love. Wuornos's story has previously been told in the documentary Aileen Wuornos: The Selling of a Serial Killer, the TV movie Overkill: The Aileen Wuornos Story, and in a 2001 opera.
