Out actor-author-director Stephen Fry will take on the role of master detective Sherlock Holmes in a British TV movie, reports BBC News. Playing Watson to Fry's Holmes will be Fry's longtime heterosexual partner in comedy Hugh Laurie, whose collaborations with Fry include Jeeves and Wooster, Peter's Friends, and A Bit of Fry and Laurie. U.K. network ITV1 hasn't confirmed that the project is happening, but both performers are believed to be committed. "Stephen is absolutely passionate about Sherlock Holmes, and Hugh will make a superb Watson," ITV1's Nick Elliott told The [London] Daily Mirror. Fry's theatrical directorial debut, Bright Young Things, opens later this year in the United States.
