Variety reports that Strand Releasing has acquired U.S. rights to the Taiwanese gay romantic comedy Formula 17, from 23-year-old first-time director DJ Chen. The film, which was the highest-grossing film this year in its home country, tells the story of a 17-year-old country boy who spends the summer in Taipei and falls in love with a big-city Casanova. No word yet regarding release dates in the United States.
