The SHINE (Sexual Health in Entertainment) Awards for 2004 were recently presented in Los Angeles, and gay-inclusive TV series were among the honorees. Showtime's Queer as Folk won its third consecutive Series Storyline award, this year for a plotline revolving around HIV-positive former teen prostitute Hunter, who contemplated having sex with a girl. The N's Degrassi: The Next Generation took the Youth Episodic prize for "Pride," the episode in which gay teenager Marco comes out to his friends. The N also won Youth Informational Documentary for the "Living With HIV/AIDS" episode of A Walk in Your Shoes, which showed an HIV-negative teen being enlightened through his friendship with an HIV-positive teenager. A complete listing of the SHINE winners can be found here.
