A break with "Tradition": Harvey Fierstein to take over lead in Broadway's Fiddler on the Roof
Multiple Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein will play a married father of five when he steps into the role of Tevye in Broadway's revival of Fiddler on the Roof, according to Playbill.com. Fierstein will take over for Alfred Molina beginning with the January 2 performance. While Fierstein has generally been associated with gay roles during his career, a spokesperson told Playbill.com that he was hungry to play what is considered one of the greatest "traditional" roles in American musical theater. The role will enable him to sing such favorites as "Sunrise, Sunset," "Tradition," "If I Were a Rich Man," and the duet "Do You Love Me?"
