On Sunday, La Cage aux Folles won Tony awards for Best Musical Revival and Choreography. On Tuesday producers of the $10 million revival said the show will close June 26 after a disappointing seven-month run of 229 performances. "Unfortunately, despite winning the Tony award...our sales have not increased," producer James L. Nederlander said. "We've decided to set the closing date for June 26 to give theatergoers a window of opportunity to see this beautiful show." La Cage, which stars Robert Goulet and Gary Beach as gay men who own a racy nightclub on the French Riviera, has struggled at the box office since opening to mixed reviews in December. The show grossed only $269,870 last week, filling less than 40% of the seats at the Marquis Theatre. (AP)
