Variety reports that director Philip Kaufman (The
Right Stuff, Henry and June) will take on the
life of his filmmaking predecessor Nicholas Ray in the
film biography I Was Interrupted, written by
Oren Moverman (Jesus' Son). The bisexual Ray had
several legendary love affairs with Hollywood figures
of both sexes, including Natalie Wood and Wood's
biographer Gavin Lambert, and struggled with drugs and
alcohol; principally remembered for Rebel Without a
Cause, Ray also directed such classics as
Johnny Guitar, In a Lonely Place, and
Bigger Than Life. The script is based on Ray's
memoir of the same name and will focus on the last
decade of his life; no start date has been set.
