Martin Short will
find his way to Broadway this summer in the story of
his life. Well, sort of. His show, a cheeky autobiographical
musical called, Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me,
will open August 10 at a theater to be announced.
Short, who has
appeared on Broadway in musicals such as The Goodbye
Girl and a revival of Little Me, cowrote the book
for Fame Becomes Me with playwright Daniel Goldfarb.
It has a score by romantic and musical partners Scott
Wittman and Marc Shaiman, who provided the music and
lyrics for Hairspray. Shaiman will be in Fame
Becomes Me as the show's onstage musical
director.
Casting for the
musical's four other roles will be announced. Fame
Becomes Me will play out-of-town tryouts in
San Francisco, April 25 to May 21 at the Curran Theatre, and
then Chicago, July 5 to July 16 at the LaSalle Bank
Theatre, before coming to New York, it was announced
Tuesday. (AP)
