Director Pedro Almodovar's Volver, starring Penelope Cruz, has been chosen to represent Spain in the nomination competition for the Academy Awards' best foreign film category, reports Variety. The movie, which takes place in Spain, follows the story of a mother who seemingly returns from the dead to resolve personal conflicts with her sassy daughter. It has grossed over $12 million since it was released in the country and has received many international awards, including a best actress nod for Cruz at May's Cannes Film Festival. Volver will be released in the United States by Sony Pictures Classics on November 3. (The Advocate)
