A Robert Mapplethorpe photograph of Andy Warhol was sold at Christie's in New York on Thursday for $643,000. The portrait, a platinum print on linen with four silk panels, depicts Warhol wearing a black collared sweater. It was the highest price ever fetched by a Mapplethorpe picture, by far exceeding its upper value estimate of $300,000.

Christie's did not identify the buyer. (The Advocate)
