Sir Ian McKellen, who played Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, will be the narrator of the fantasy film Stardust, reports Reuters/Hollywood Reporter.

The film, also starring Claire Danes, Robert de Niro, and Michelle Pfeiffer, is about a young man who has an adventure with witches, gnomes, talking animals, evil trees, and goblins while trying to retrieve a fallen star for his beloved in the Faerie world.

The story originated as a four-issue DC Comics miniseries in 1997 and was published as a novel by Neil Gaiman a year later. Matthew Vaughn directed the film, and production finished in the fall. McKellen is recording his narration during postproduction, and Stardust will be released July 27 from Paramount Pictures.

McKellen is a two-time Oscar nominee for his parts in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and Gods and Monsters. He was also in two blockbusters from 2006: X-Men: The Last Stand and The Da Vinci Code. (The Advocate)
