Former Australian Idol contestant Anthony Callea was outed on Sydney radio on Monday, reports The Daily Telegraph.

"Eye in the Skye" reporter Vic Lorusso outed the singer on The Edge radio show after mentioning Callea while talking about a former classmate. He told the host, "You wouldn't know him. He's a nice guy but his partner, which is Anthony Callea, didn't want to know anything about anybody."

The host Christo questioned Lorusso about the comment, but Lorusso quickly continued giving the traffic update. A spokesperson for the show said Lorusso "had no idea that it wasn't common knowledge" and was not taking a pot shot at Callea.

Readers of The Daily Telegraph have been quick to support Callea, who appeared on the 2004 season of the show and lost to Casey Donovan. A fan in Melbourne wrote on The Daily Telegraph's Web site: "I'm proud to say I'm an Anthony Callea fan; he's an amazing singer-songwriter and is very talented. His sexuality has nothing to do with it." (The Advocate)
