Out at the Wedding nabs Audience Award at
NewFest

Producers Gina Goff and Lauren Kellam have announced that their popular film Out at the Wedding won the Audience Award at NewFest, the New York City LGBT film festival, on Monday. Only its second festival debut, the award serves as an affirmation of its widespread appeal.

The movie follows the story of transplanted Southerner Alex Houston who, afraid to reveal her biracial fiance to her conservative family, travels to her sister's wedding alone. When an inebriated Alex vaguely references her relationship to her family, they mistake it for a coming-out speech. Hilarity, and several heartfelt moments, follow as Alex struggles to set people straight despite her family's unexpected acceptance.

Out at the Wedding recently premiered at this year's Seattle International Film Festival to enthusiastic acclaim. The festival runs through June 17. (The Advocate)
