Goff and Lauren Kellam have announced that their popular
film Out at the Wedding won the Audience Award
at NewFest, the New York City LGBT film festival, on Monday.
Only its second festival debut, the award serves as an
affirmation of its widespread appeal.
The movie follows
the story of transplanted Southerner Alex Houston who,
afraid to reveal her biracial fiance to her
conservative family, travels to her sister's wedding
alone. When an inebriated Alex vaguely references her
relationship to her family, they mistake it for a coming-out
speech. Hilarity, and several heartfelt moments,
follow as Alex struggles to set people straight
despite her family's unexpected acceptance.
Out at the Wedding recently premiered at this
year's Seattle International Film Festival to enthusiastic
acclaim. The festival runs through June 17. (The
