Rosie O'Donnell
will serve as national ambassador for the 2008 ''Kids'
Night on Broadway,'' which will take place in February.
The annual event
lets young people ages 6 to 18 see a Broadway show for
free when they attend with an adult who buys a full-price
ticket. In New York City, the dates will be February
5-6 and February 12-13. Other ''Kids'
Nights'' events are planned nationwide.
Before the
evening performances of February 5, a special kickoff party
will be held at Madame Tussaud's on 42nd Street near Times
Square.
More than two
dozen Broadway and off-Broadway shows will participate in
''Kids Night,'' including Altar Boyz, The Color Purple, Curtains, Grease, Hairspray, Mary
Poppins, The Phantom of the Opera, Rent, and
Wicked. Tickets are subject to availability.
O'Donnell is an
enthusiastic supporter of Broadway (remember all the
Broadway shows she featured on her original daytime
television talk show?), and she appeared on Broadway
in the 1994 revival of Grease and later as the Cat in
the Hat in Seussical.
