Sordid Lives: The Series, a new comedic prequel to the 1996 play and 2000 film of the same name, will begin airing this fall on Logo, network officials announced Tuesday in a press release.

Chronicling a dysfunctional Southern family, an institutionalized man who channels Tammy Wynette, and a struggling young actor trying to cope with coming out to his Texas Republican Baptist family, the new half-hour series features original stars Bonnie Bedelia, Beth Grant, and Olivia Newton-John as well as newcomers Rue McClanahan and Caroline Rhea.

The series also boasts a number of celebrity guest appearances including by Leslie Jordan, Margaret Cho, Candis Cayne, Carson Kressley, and Georgette Jones (Wynette's real-life daughter).

Logo, a division of Viacom and MTV Networks, has been developing the series for the past two years, and writing on all 12 episodes was completed by original creator Del Shores last year. Filming has already begun on location in Louisiana. (The Advocate)
