Tabloids Blame the Bisexuals: June Edition

Tabloids Blame the Bisexuals: June Edition

It seems sometimes like there's nothing better than the word "bisexual" when it comes to sensationalizing celebrity news for the tabloids. In the last week, several tab reports have talked about two high profile celebs and their alleged relationships with bisexuals, and the implied "damage" they caused, with little outcry from LGBT media watchers.

After Johnny Depp announced his split from Vanessa Paradis, his partner of 14 years, some tabs claimed that the reason for the split was that Depp is in love with his costar in The Rum Diary, bisexual actress Amber Heard. The U.K. Daily Mail reported that Heard has been a regular visitor to the New Mexico set where Depp is filming The Lone Ranger and that he is so smitten he's bought her a fancy horse so the two can ride together. That appears to be the bulk of the proof of a relationship. Depp has repeatedly denied reports of the affair, but that didn't stop nearly every entertainment outlet from reporting on the alleged relationship, many of them using Heard's sexuality to underscore the attraction. Even gay pundit Perez Hilton called Heard a "bisexual vixen" in his account of the alleged affair. A few media outlets, like Zimbio, even mentioned photographer Tasya Van Ree, Heard's girlfriend since 2008, and where she might play in this supposed "bisexual love triangle."

Meanwhile, many media accounts this weekend featured the headline "Adele's Bisexual Lover Drove Her to Drink" or something similar, all of them based on a new biography of the Grammy-winning superstar.

According to Gay Star News, the biography from author Marc Shapiro alleges that Adele "developed a 'drinking problem' while promoting her debut single 'Hometown Glory' and once was so drunk during a gig she was almost unable to perform." All of this because she "loved the drama surrounding boys who treated her bad," especially one bisexual boy.

Adele, the daughter of an alcoholic, allegedly drank to deal with her romantic issues.

According to the Daily Mail, Adele knew her boyfriend was bisexual "but, in the rush of romance, felt they could make it work. Four hours after laying their emotional cards on the table, the boy ran off with one of Adele's gay friends!"

Despite that, the two reportedly dated another four months but she couldn't stomach his "cheating" anymore. He inspired her first album, 19, which went platinum four times and won her Grammy awards for best new artist and best female pop vocal performance, so if there is any kernel of truth to this story, it sounds like Adele might actually owe bisexuals a great big thank-you.
