Philadelphia AIDS service organization ActionAIDS on Friday officially opened Casa Nueva Vida, a housing facility for HIV-positive people and their families that includes 12 two-bedroom units attached to a comprehensive service site. Up to 60 residents every three years will receive employment readiness training, mental health therapy, in-home support, practical skills building workshops, and ongoing case management and linkage to medical and social services. Beyond providing shelter, Casa Nueva Vida will allow individuals and families living with HIV and AIDS to stabilize their lives and prepare to build sound futures, ActionAIDS officials say. The facility is located at 2629-2641 N. Sixth St. ActionAIDS, founded in 1986, is Pennsylvania's largest AIDS service provider, serving more than 3,500 individuals and 250 families each year at 30 locations throughout Philadelphia.
