Elton John one of many with songs on "lyrically questionable" list
Clear Channel, the world's largest radio network, responded to Tuesday's terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington, D.C., with a list of approximately 150 "lyrically questionable" songs that it recommends stations avoid. Elton John's "Daniel," "Bennie and the Jets," and "Rocket Man" made the list, along with such disparate tunes as the Bangles' "Walk Like an Egyptian," the Steve Miller Band's "Jet Airliner," and Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky." (Since it's not a pop radio staple, the Cure's "Killing an Arab"--which is actually a reference to Albert Camus's The Stranger--was not listed.)
