MTV, Kaiser Family Foundation win Emmy for sexual health campaign
MTV and the Kaiser Family Foundation on Wednesday received an Emmy award for their "Be Safe/Fight for Your Rights: Protect Yourself" international campaign, aimed at educating young people about sexual health issues through a services of public service messages, special programs, online resources, and a referral program. The award was presented in New York at the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences 2001 Community Service and PSA Emmy Awards ceremony. The campaign beat out six other nominees in the National PSA category.
MTV and Kaiser have teamed up since 1997 to provide young people with sexual-health information. To date, eight full-length specials and more than two dozen public service announcements have aired. In addition, more than 750,000 viewers have called the campaign's anonymous telephone hotline, and several million have visited the campaign's Web site at www.fightforyourrights.mtv.com.
"To reach young people with critical sexual health information, you have to go to the outlets they trust," said Drew Altman, president and CEO of the Kaiser Family Foundation. "Our partnership with MTV helps many more young people protect their sexual health."
