Sen. Hillary Clinton's bid for the presidency was bolstered by her appearance at an LGBT fund-raiser held at director Roland Emmerich's Los Angeles home, according to Bilerico.com. Event sponsor Yashar Hedayat, who also serves as volunteer fund-raiser for the Clinton campaign and GLBT chair of the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee, said the event raised $200,000 for Clinton's campaign.

Clinton spoke at the event, recounting how an Alabama gay couple offered solace to her father during his struggle with Alzheimer's. She also stressed the importance of recognizing commonalities among polarized people instead of differences before calling her husband Bill Clinton's "don't ask, don't tell" military policy "a failed policy," according to the Bilerico.com.

The event's 250 attendees included many entertainment industry figures, including Marisa Tomei, Ken Olin, and singer-entrepreneur Todd Murray. (The Advocate)
